Several years ago the girls’ father left the country to look for work, and never returned—leaving the family with no means of support.

Often, the best their mother could feed them was sugar water. Sona, the youngest, became so malnourished that her hair was falling out in patches.

Everything changed when the three girls were chosen to be sponsored. Mariam and her sisters now enjoy three good, hot meals a day at school. Mariam has become a diligent student who aspires to be a teacher. And the children know they are loved. Every letter from their sponsors is treasured, with the newest always tucked beneath their pillows.
